The official start of the 2022/2023 Season (Slide Show Below!)
Dateline: 10.10.22 – Greetings Cruisers! Our October Car & Bike Show was a blast! With post-Ian cooler and dry weather hanging on, it was a great day for a car show.
Before I get into specifics, we shared the American Legion parking lot with some fine citizens. American Legion Department of Florida, Department Disaster Preparedness Chair, Bill Hoppner, and Convoy Advance Unit leader, Bob Neely with The Military Vehicle Preservation Association 2021 Yellowstone Trail Section Convoy were on hand.
The Legion and the MVPA used a portion of the Legion parking lot as a staging area for the relief effort for Fort Meyers, Punta Gorda, Arcadia, and other areas of western Florida that were savaged by Hurricane Ian.
By noon we had fifty-three cars and bikes in the Legion’s parking lot. We had six motorcycles, thanks to Lamar Camacho, District 8 Riders Chairman with the American Legion Riders. Welcome aboard guys and gals! Hopefully, we’ll see more of your members in November.
October 10, 2022, was Cruiser Dan Ryan’s LUCKY day! Not only did Dan win a set of open and closed box wrenches and screwdrivers (I know, you gals reading this are just swooning!) door prize, Dan won the 50/50 and stuffed $250 bucks in his pocket! Kudos to Dan!
As you know, Lake Country Cruisers has monthly “Meet’n Eat” luncheons at five Lake Placid restaurants in exchange for gift cards the restaurant provides. This month, newcomers Lamar Camacho and his wife Jennifer won the 50/50 runner-up prize of a $50 Gift Card for Dock 633, on Lake June Road in Lake Placid.
And lastly, our Cruiser of the Month was Gary Burnett, owner of a beautiful 1970 Lotus Europa. When I saw Gary’s car coming into the show I said to Ron Ellerman, “I don’t remember the last time I saw a Lotus Europa!”
Isn’t it amazing how it is that here we are in one of the least populated places in the state and there are so many cool cars? If you know other people with cool cars, invite them to a Lake Country Car & Bike Show. It’s a Car Party!
We have two events coming up before the next Car & Bike show. We are planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale to visit George Haddad’s amazing hot rod shop, Fabulous Restorations. A group of us from Highlands County Corvettes went there almost two years ago and were blown away! The date will be Sunday, November 6, 2022. Details are to come later this week.
Thanks for coming to our show and supporting what we do. Our community outreach supports the Veterans Council of Highlands County (for Vets in Highlands County), South Florida State College and the Bill Jarrett Automotive Scholarship for Auto Mechanics and Body Repair and Paint, the Lake Placid American Legion’s Mess Hall/Kitchen, Dave, owner of Divine Ice Cream, and five local restaurants.
