Dateline: 5.15.22 – South-Central Florida dished up another spectacular summer-like day for Lake Country Cruisers’ last Lake Placid American Legion Car & Bike Show for the season. We will be having four events before we start up at the Legion again on October 8, 2022.
Officially we had 60 cars registered. When you register, you get a car number, later in the show, we pull numbers for Door Prizes. The Cruiser that came the farthest was Ted Pierce, from Alva, Florida (just west of LeBelle) with his 1948 Chevy Pickup. Thanks, Ted!
We also had special guests from South Florida State College, in Avon Park. Professors Dave Alvarez and Garrett Lee brought along some of the students from the Automotive Vocational Training school. Thanks for being with us, guys! After you build your ride, we want to see you and your machine there!
And Dave brought his 2020 Harley-Davidson Livewire electric motorcycle. While we all have “gasoline in our veins”, the new era of electric cars is just around the corner and many of these vehicles are brutally quick and fast. It’ll be an interesting time.
Our Door Prize winners were; Mark Taboda, Rick Graham, Tom Baldwin, and John Losue. Our 50/50 Winner of $230 was John Razamo. We now have five Lake Placid restaurants that sponsor our shows with Gift Certificates that we give away as 50/50 runner-up prizes. Mark Taboda was having a good day, he went home with a Door Prize AND a $50 Gift Certificate from Jaxson’s On the Lake. And we had one more runner-up winners of $25 Gas Card, Dan Ryan.
Several months ago Gary Pigman donated a sweet, hand-made 1940 Ford Cookie Jar. We stuffed it full of little booze bottles and raffled it off as a “Cookie Jar Full of Cheer”. Our Raffle winner was John Razamo, and he was very happy!
And lastly, our Cruiser of the Month was Martin Striegel and his beautiful burgundy 1950 Ford Custom. The car is gorgeous inside and out and is period-correct. It’s one SWEET ride and we love the front license plate. The Cruiser Car Culture is all about fun, humor, and having a good time. And, they brought their dog, too! He had a good time, too!
That wraps up our American Legion Lake Country Cruisers season, but we’re going to leave you with nothing to do during the summer. Our next show will be at the Lake Placid First Presbyterian Church, located next to the Genesis Center on Father’s Day, June 19, 2022. Details, time, and a map will be posted soon.
The Caladium Festival Car & Bike Show will be on July 30, 2022, at the DeVane Circle in Lake Placid. Street vendors will be in downtown Lake Placid and the car show in the park. Details, entry fees, times, and maps coming soon.
We are also planning a Labor Day Car & Bike Show in Lake Placid on Sept 3 with the location to be announced. And lastly, we are working on a Car & Bike Show at the South Florida State College campus in late September or early October.
And to keep the fun going, we will be having our monthly Meet’n Eat luncheons at Lake Placid restaurants that are sponsors of Lake Country Cruisers. This Thursday, May 19 we will be at Jaxson’s On the Lake from 2 pm to 4 pm, and for the June luncheon, we’ll be at the new The Warehouse Billiards on Main Street in downtown Lake Placid, 2 pm to 4 pm. We’re heard that the owner is a gourmet chef and cooks up great pizza and wings. We’ll check it out before the event for ya!
We want to thank everyone that comes to our shows for your support and friendship. Without you we could not do our community outreach work. You folks make that happen! Car people are good people and it’s great getting together with all of you for a few hours of sun, fun, conversation, and machines. See you at the next show! – Scott, Pete, Ron, Christy, & George
