February was not a good month for our car club family. It consisted of the passing of Buddy Hutson, Kent’s dad & the unexpected passing of Kaye Harvey. I knew Buddy from the years I worked at Otasco & Atoka Motor Sales. He was a good man that I liked & respected. Then there was Kaye. Kaye & Bud Harvey became members of the club about a year & a half ago and became really involved in the club since joining. Kaye wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion & was always trying to keep me in line. She had become a good friend & will be missed greatly. Bud & Kent, our thoughts & prayers are with both of you.
Starting April 1, we are going to have a get together called “Boys Night”. It will be on the first Thursday of every month during the Spring & Summer. It’s a time for just the guys to hang out together, whether it’s working on the cars, discussing projects, or just plain shooting the bull with friends. The first night will be at Kenny’s Garage located at the old Atoka Auto Salvage east of town. The time will be at 6:00 p.m.
For those that missed the last meeting, a Car Show Location Committee was formed. The purpose of the committee is to have a new place located in the event for whatever reason we have to move from Boggy Depot State Park.
The committee members are Bud Harvey, Kent Hutson & Brad Ryan. If any of you have a place that you think would be a good spot for the car show, contact one of the committee members. Also we discussed the vacant position of Secretary. Nita Hall will be the new secretary of the club. She hasn’t been able to attend the last couple of meetings due to personal reasons. But when she gets those worked out, she will be our club secretary. Gary Stout will do the minutes at our meetings until Nita is able to attend. Sheri Hutson along with Gina & I will be part of a Club Activity Committee. The purpose will be to plan different activities for the club throughout the year. I do hope most of you will try to come to the various activities & functions in the coming months ahead. Whether or not you are into the activities, it’s a great opportunity to make new friends or just enjoy your time with old ones. So just give it a try. You might like it.
